The Significant Others Organisation, comprised of the spouses, partners and other family members of SGU students, received a talk from SGU faculty member Dr. Theresa McCann on October 4, 2011 on Disaster Preparedness. Dr. McCann, who is Associate Dean of Basic Sciences at SGU and Chair of SGU’s Disaster Management Team addressed the students on the prevalence of hurricanes and earthquakes in Grenada, how to prepare for them and what to do during these disasters.
She also touched on a variety of issues including drought and the normal Grenadian dry season, avoiding and treating diseases like dengue fever and gastroenteritis, and dealing with encounters with centipedes, sandflies, mosquitos and black sea urchins.
