Title: Fund for the Orphans and Elderly Brings Smiles for Christmas
By Line

Short Story
Children from all of Grenada’s orphanages received a treat this Christmas. The Fund for the Orphans and Elderly hosted its annual Christmas party in their honour on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at St. George’s University’s Grand Anse Campus. At the party, the children enjoyed wonderful eats, drinks and music and were fascinated with the special attractions of the day: face painting, a bouncing castle, photo booth and the Discovery Train. Of course, Santa was present and gave each child a special Christmas gift. Samantha Ince-John, Public Relations Officer of the Fund and Assistant Director of Communications at SGU commented: “The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were delighted with their presents. The Fund is happy to have been able to bring joy to them this Christmas.”

The Fund for the Orphans & Elderly was established in 1991 by Dr. Charles R. Modica, Chancellor of St. George’s University, at the request of Nelly Golarz, Ph.D., former Dean of Women and Professor of Histology at SGU. It has grown from initially sponsoring ten institutions in Grenada to sponsoring fifteen, including one in Carriacou. In the twenty years of the Fund’s existence, it has done exceptionally well in meeting the needs of the various institutions. It has far surpassed Dr. Modica’s initial goal of EC $500,000 and, to date, has raised approximately EC $1.8 million dollars which has been used to significantly improve the quality of life of our needy orphans and elderly, and others who live under destitute situations.
