Short Story

Each semester, as the fifth term class prepares to leave Grenada to go on their clinical rotations, an award ceremony is held to honor students of that class who have performed exemplarily. This semester’s awards, held at Patrick Adams Hall, SGU on May 2, were particularly special as one student really shone.
Neil Polson walked away with three awards recognizing his academic excellence: the BSCE I and II Achievement Awards for scoring the highest on both of those exams and the Future Physician / Golden Stethoscope Award for outstanding academic performance in clinical skills coupled with great interpersonal skills and humanitarianism. Neil is the second person to capture all three of these awards, with the first being Dr. Roggie Reason who did so in 2008.

Another award, the White Coat Award, was given to Kunal Chawla in recognition of his professionalism and humanism, qualities which exemplify the White Coat. Kunal was nominated and selected for this award by members of his class. Finally, this semester saw the introduction of a new award, the IEA Outstanding Service Award. This award recognizes the student who has given dedicated service to the Grenadian community through outreach and to the student community through tutoring while maintaining exemplary academic performance. The recipient for this award, chosen by IEA, was Eileen TenCate.
The students will now commence two years of clinical training, after the successful completion of which they will receive their degrees. We wish the class continued success.
