The praises bestowed on Donalyn at the ceremony included descriptors like: diligent, industrious, reliable, hardworking, patient, caring, professional and resourceful. She is said to be very efficient, passionate about her department and performs her duties in an exemplary manner. She has been described as having “a remarkable sense of humour” and being a great asset to her department.
2011 Employees of the Months:
Maureen Collins of the Housekeeping Department, who has worked with the University since 2007, was awarded Employee of the Month for January. She is said to take great pride in her work and to be a joy to work with. She is described by colleagues as quiet, humble, helpful, hardworking and always willing to go the extra mile.
February’s Employee of the Month was Eric Williams from the Purchasing Department. He has worked with the University since January 1993 when he entered as a Junior Bookstore Clerk until he was promoted to Purchasing Receiving Clerk in 1995, and later to Mailroom Supervisor in 2008. Throughout his numerous years of service, he has received several awards by the University and has been nominated for Employee of the Month several times. He is described as well-disciplined, hardworking, committed to ensuring the satisfaction of those he works with and always going beyond the call of duty.
Lydia Boodoo of the Clinical Skills department was Employee of the Month for March. She started at SGU in 2003 as an Executive Secretary in the then Basic Science Foundation Department and was promoted in 2007 to provide administrative support to the Chair of the Clinical Skills Department. She was Employee of the Month once before in 2005 and was recognised for her excellent minuting at the Clinical meetings in 2008. She is described as an excellent employee who continually strives for greater excellence.
Receiving the Employee of the Month award for April was Kathleen Alexander-Francis of the Housekeeping Department who has worked with the University since August 2008. Pleasant, lively, vibrant and always bearing a smile, she is described by her supervisor as respectful, consistent, punctual and meticulous.
May’s Employee of the Month awardee was Alban Phillip who joined the SGU family in July 1999 as a Public Area Cleaner. In 2001, he was recognised as the person with the best quality of work within the Housekeeping Department and he received an Employee of the Month award in 2003. His work is said to be of the highest standard and he is consistent and displays a very positive attitude. His colleagues describe him as a darling and say that he is friendly, always well groomed and clearly enjoys what he does.
Employee of the Month for June was Ms. Patricia Pilgrim, who started here in August 1989. A Maid within the Housekeeping Department, she is described as helpful, friendly, genuine, consistent and hardworking in maintaining the University’s standards and always willing to go the extra mile
A friendly face from the Human Resource Department in the person of Marlena John-Joseph received the Employee of the Month for July 2011. She began as a Secretary in that department in 2008 and her excellent performance led to her promotion to Executive Secretary within that same year. She later performed the role of Group Insurance Analyst and has been further promoted to this post. Marlena is always cheerful, smiling and willing to go beyond the call of duty to assist staff members.
September’s awardee was Shonary Joseph, a Computer Technician and Microsoft Certified Computer Specialist within the Department of Information Technology. He is hardworking, punctual, reliable, dedicated, a great team player and role model and an asset to the IT Department.
Kelvin Alfred, within the Maintenance Department, who is attached to the University Club, captured the Employee of the Month award for October. He has been with the University since 1994. He is trustworthy, reliable, conscientious, responsible, frank but gentle, easy to work with, displays an exemplary attitude and consistently keeps the grounds of the University Club in pristine condition.
The Employee of the Month award for November went to another long standing member of staff, Cecilia Clarke, a Maid within the Housekeeping Department who joined the University in 1988. Cecilia is described as well-disciplined, hardworking, pleasant, easy to work with, willing, friendly and helpful. Largely responsible for the ‘spick and span’ condition of the Chancellery building, Cecilia is said to have “set a very high standard which will be difficult to follow”.
The 2011 Employee of the Year and each Employee of the Month have certainly made us very proud. They are an inspiration to all of us.
