Short Story
Cuddly puppies, mischievous dogs and cats, contemplative sheep and goats, one cantankerous bull and the humans who care for them all received free health care at the St. George’s University’s One Health, One Medicine health fair and vet clinic on Saturday, September 29. The people of Non Pariel and the wider St. Mark area came out in their numbers with pets and livestock in tow. The animals received health checks, deworming and vaccinations while their humans received routine health tests including blood sugar and pressure, vision and hearing. A team from Women in Medicine (WIM) also provided breast exams and educated attendees on breast health.
The health fair / vet clinic also coincided with both World Heart Day and World Rabies Day and the students and faculty volunteers were only too happy to provide information to attendees on promoting heart health and preventing rabies, which can affect both humans and animals. The event was a collaborative effort by St. George’s University student groups American Medical Students Association (AMSA), Student Association of the Veterinary Medical Association (SAAVMA), Women in Medicine (WIM) and the Pediatrics Club, as well as the Open Bible Standard Churches of Grenada and Grenada’s Ministry of Health.
