Short Story
A St. George’s University Business Studies student has travelled to American University (AU) for one semester of classes, as part of the ‘Washington Semester Graduate Gateway Program’. For this past semester, Krystle Noel, International Business and Trade major, has attended classes in AU in Washington D.C. and has completed an exciting international internship in China.
In our interview with Krystle before she left Grenada, she told the Gazette that she foresaw a challenging time but was eager for the experience, learning and exposure to diverse cultures. She left with great expectations and the confidence that St. George’s University had prepared her well - academically and otherwise - for her journey.

Full Story
Krystle is among approximately 75 students from around the world selected for the program based on the competitive criteria of academic aptitude, English language proficiency and a well-developed career plan in international business and trade or closely related field. Krystle has had a rich educational experience which she says she has thoroughly enjoyed. Her course entailed visits to Embassies, Government Institutions and other major Corporations in the DC area and placed some emphasis on US-China relations. From November 2 to 19, Krystle traveled to China along with her course professor and sixteen other students. She worked on a special China project that included conducting an analytical report on market conditions and the feasibility of a Chinese company, UniqueSoft, doing business in the US and European markets. Krystle’s internship was with a non-profit organization called Center for Social Leadership, which concentrated on social media marketing and provided Krystle with hands-on experience. Krystle has kept a journal of her experiences and plans, upon returning to Grenada, to present on what she has learnt to her classmates.
St. George’s University began partnering with American University in 2009 and is the only university in the Caribbean, apart from Puerto Rico, to be part of this affiliation. Dr. Reccia Charles, recognizing the worth of such a partnership, initiated contact with AU in February 2009. “I knew the type of opportunity it represented for our students,” she commented. “Partnership with a world recognized leader in university education conveys the worth of the business education at SGU and it opens a world of internship opportunities at places like the IMF and the World Bank.” Dr. Charles presented the opportunity to Dean Hollis, who was instrumental in bringing the idea to fruition in August 2009 when the final agreement was signed.
Krystle is proud to lead the way for other St. George’s University students to participate in this outstanding program.
