According to Dr. Haynes-Smith, the one thing she finds most challenging yet exciting in her new post at St. George’s is “...trying to adjust the teaching strategies I used in North America to meet the unique learning needs of my Caribbean students. Having obtained my primary school education in the Caribbean is proving to be an advantage in the adjustment process.”
Her twenty-one years of service in the United States Armed Services as a member of the Army Nurse Corps, which included service as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, is also an advantage. Dr. Haynes-Smith comments: “I believe that sharing the wealth of nursing experiences that I received during that time plus my varied experiences as a nurse and nurse educator would be helpful in making my contribution to the Department of Nursing and St. George’s University worthwhile.”
The beauty of Grenada is not lost on Dr. Haynes-Smith. She enjoys gazing at the sunset at the end of the day as the sun seemingly disappears below the sea, wishing only that her life partner, Leon and beautiful daughter, Natasha were here to enjoy these spectacular views with her.
